Nerja
Nerja is a lovely seaside town, about 35 miles to the east of Málaga (40 minutes by motorway). The vast majority of the buildings are low-rise, helping it to maintain its charm. Nerja enjoys one of the best climates in Europe and is therefore an ideal year-round resort, with mild winters and generally blue, sunny skies. The resort does not close for the winter! Sunbeds are always available on the beach and there are usually plenty of people in the sea on Christmas Day!
Nerja is often described as "the jewel in the crown of the Costa del Sol" and gets excellent reviews in the British press, including Holiday Which?. Despite its cosmopolitan population, it still retains its Spanish feeling and has not sold out to mass tourism in the way that so many other resorts have along the Costa del Sol. It nestles unobtrusively among the foothills of the Almijara mountains and a relatively unspoilt coastline boasting many attractive beaches and coves. The focal point for the town is the "Balcón de Europa" where people meet for a chat, a drink or just a gentle stroll.
